Tennis Players: The world's best tennis players gather in Paris for the 2012 French Open. With a very few exceptions the top 100 ranked men and women tennis players will be in attendance led by current world no. 1 players Novak Djokovic of Serbia and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus. 128 players will start in both men's and women's singles draw with rankings used for guaranteed spots in the draw. Eight spots will be granted to wildcard entries, while sixteen spots are reserved for players who go through three qualifying rounds.

Clay court specialists David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro of Spain are expected to challenge along with in-form top 10 players Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina and Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic. On the women's side, the favorites will include Azarenka, world no. 2 Maria Sharapova of Russia and 13-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams of the United States. Other contenders are defending champion Li, world no. 3 Agnieszka Radwanksa of Poland, Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic and US Open champion Samantha Stosur of Australia.
